How does the filter work in your pet fountain?
All cat fountains will run without the filters. They do not assist in the mechanics of running the fountains. However, the fountain has a lot of nooks and crevices in which debris can collect. That is why some sort of mechanical filtration is needed to prevent this material from entering the pump.
The filters of the Petlibro water fountain used activated carbon made from coconut shells. This removes toxins, particles, bad taste, and odor. The pump circulates the water, ensuring clean drinking water for your pet. The filter is very vulnerable to dirt, can be easily clogged over time, and is also subject to bacterial growth. This is why filters are less effective over time and need constant replacements.
How often do I need to replace the filters?
- Filters should be changed every two weeks. However, if you have more pets, notice more debris or slime, or the fountain's water flow is decreased, this means you may need to clean the fountain or replace the filters more often.
- All filters must be soaked in a clean bowl for 5 minutes and rinsed under cold water for 1 minute before use. Loose black particles will be rinsed out from the carbon filter. These particles are harmless to your pets but can appear in the fountain bowl if the filter is not thoroughly rinsed.

What direction of the filter goes UP in the fountain? The flat side or shaped side?
